Health Insurance when Unemployed
Dear Friends,
In last week’s video about insurance, I referenced one of my wife’s favorite sayings. She often says, “it’s better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.” When I think about health insurance, I believe very strongly that we all need some form of health insurance. Falling ill while uninsured can add financial catastrophe to physical brokenness.
As I mentioned today, the best way to determine your insurance options is to do research. The links you will find on today’s email are helpful places to start, if you need some guidance.
There are many challenges to being unemployed, and a lack of health coverage is just one of them. If you are facing prolonged unemployment right now, I want to encourage you on a few fronts.
First of all, I encourage you to stay pro-active in the job search. Pro-activity may mean researching a new field of employment and getting further training in that area. Pro-activity may mean asking others to pray for you and with you as you search for a job. Or, it may mean being pro-active in other areas of your life (exercise, family involvement, volunteer time) to avoid depression and to make connections with new people in your community. Certainly, pro-activity means doing a certain amount of networking and job-hunting on an ongoing basis so that you are putting yourself in the best position to find the work that is available.
Secondly, I want to encourage you that, as a believer, you are gifted and called. Ephesians talks about the works that God prepared for you in advance of your creation in chapter 2, verse 10. Then, chapter 4 of Ephesians talks about giftedness at work in the body of Christ. So, if you are hurting, frustrated, or confused about what next steps you are to take on the job front, I believe that you will find encouragement by reading and meditating on the book of Ephesians in your devotion time.
Finally, I want to encourage you that God is always faithful to work out trials in our lives to our good and to His glory. (Romans 8:28; James 1:1-18) This world is not our home, but God will use the challenges we endure on this earth to prepare us for our eternal home. I pray that you remember His grace and mercy in your time of trial this week!
Blessings,
Ron
