Lessons from the Sale of a House
Dear Friends:
The housing market in the United States has been wracked with trauma over the last several years. I have a daughter who was terribly affected by the downturn in the Florida market, and I have a son and daughter in law who decided to do a renovation in their townhome to make space for their two children rather than trying to move in the current market. As I mentioned in the video, Judy and I were wanting to downsize our lifestyle by selling our second home, but we could not find a buyer, so we ended up selling our primary home in Atlanta and moving, full-time, to South Carolina. My guess is that you could tell me a story of people you know whose plans have been greatly altered by the downturn in the housing market, as well.
If you are in the middle of trying to sell a home in this market, or if your financial picture has been negatively affected by the problems in the housing market, I would like to encourage you. First of all, I want to encourage you that God is with you. He promises in Romans 8:28 to work all things for good for those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose. So, as a believer, He will redeem your situation and create good through it in your life.
Secondly, though, I want to encourage you to look beyond the financial or the material to see God’s deeper blessings. When we moved, we were not thrilled by the price we got for our home or by the fact that selling our Atlanta home meant leaving 35 years of roots and history in a city. However, the blessings of simplifying our life, gaining more unity in our marriage, and being forced to re-prioritize as we started over in a new place have been tremendous for Judy and me. We would never have self-selected many of the circumstances of the last two years, but we would not trade the beauty of the grace of God that we’ve experienced in those circumstances for anything.
As you pursue financial changes, such as the sale of a house, due to God’s direction in your life, rest assured that He will provide unique blessings along the way.
May God’s peace encourage you as you pursue financial wisdom and depend on His Truth.
