Financial Dreams

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!  I hope that you had a good time of fellowship with family over the holidays.
This month, we’re going to look at five aspects of the financial goal-setting process: dreams, goals, priorities, principles, and freedom.  I hope that you will take some time each week to watch the videos and then apply the teaching to your situation.

Today’s topic, financial dreams, can quickly cause us to examine our beliefs about God.  Do we believe that God wants us to dream, to excel, to achieve, and to experience material provision or blessing?  Where on the continuum of scarcity vs. abundance is the ideal place to experience God’s provision?  These are deep questions, and complicated ones.  However, I believe that when we allow ourselves to dream about what our financial future could hold while we are in close communion with God, He uses that dreaming process to help us set faith-filled financial goals.

When we ask a child, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and they reply, “the President,” we respond with awe and wonder.  We encourage them in their imagination and in their ambition.  Later, when they grow and employ their gifts and talents in “real” life to lead and to solve small, but real, problems, we applaud them.  We clearly see how a position on the Student Council at age 15 is a partial realization of their Presidential ambitions from when they were 5.

God is our Heavenly Father.  He knows how to take our dreams and infuse them with faith, with reality, with His purposes and Presence, and with “real” life experience.  Once we take the time to dream, and when we surrender those dreams to Him, He is free to move us into the “Student Council” positions we might never have known, had we not started by dreaming with Him of leading the Cabinet.  And, we can agree with Paul when he said in Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

May God’s peace encourage you as you pursue financial wisdom and depend on His Truth.

Blessings,

Ron
