Tell us about the release of your new book, Surviving Financial Meltdown, with Jeremy White.

Dear Friends,

Surviving Financial Meltdown is the name of the new book.  Truthfully, when the publisher came to Jeremy and me with the title, we both wondered if it was “too strong.”  But, in fielding question after question from concerned individuals, we decided that many of you are feeling the need to survive in this economy. You may have a feeling of meltdown or freefall in your own finances.  So, the name is appropriate… not because the nation will melt down, but because the name reflects what many people feel in their gut about the events of the last six months or so.

I received a question last week from a subscriber to this website.  She sent me a review of her financial choices for the last 25 years and effectively proved the point that health issues, singleness, and day-to-day demands had sapped her ability to save for retirement and had left her living paycheck to paycheck at this point in her journey.  She is frightened and maxed out, but she has been faithful in her choices. She wondered how to survive her own financial meltdown.

First of all, I’d share with her that as long as she is making financially responsible choices that are in line with God’s Word (such as avoiding debt, seeking wise counsel, recognizing God’s ownership, etc), she is doing all that she can do.  Trusting God’s provision and faithfulness when there is no margin or room for error is where true faith happens.  I would pray earnestly for her that God would continue to provide direction and protect her finances.  He is ultimately responsible for caring for His children.

Secondly, though, (and this is where you and I come in), her situation reminds me of the need for the Church right now.  The macroeconomics of a bailout and a reform of some of our financial institutions will take time to have an effect on the economy.  In the meantime, the chances are very, very good that you have people in your church or in your community whose situations mirror the situation I am sharing with you and need help and encouragement right now.  My question to you is simple:  What are you doing to help?  How are you the embodiment of the Church in those people’s lives?

Please, hear me.  We all get afraid and we can get very centered on our own questions, concerns, and financial issues when there is widespread uncertainty.  God calls us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  His desire for His bride is that she is the embodiment of His love to the world.  Who is hurting in your sphere of influence?  Who might need financial help or even a gift of time or friendship from you?  I challenge you to look up to God to seek His guidance in this area and then to look out to the world outside your door to minister to the needs of your friends and neighbors.

This is a tough time, but this is also an amazing time.  We, as the body of Christ, have the opportunity to reach out to one another in tangible ways that will make a real difference in hurting lives.

May God’s peace encourage you as you pursue financial wisdom and depend on His Truth.

Blessings,

Ron

Heard about this book after listening to Ron as a guest for Focus on the Family this week. Looking forward to finding help in surviving this economic melt down and tips on how to save and trim and payoff consumer debt.

My wife and I are 72 years old and do quite well thanks to family members before us understood the very things you talk about in "Surviving Financial Meltdown". It works. We live in Michigan in the summer and spend our winters in Florida. However; A daughter has troubles saving money. Our son after 20 years in the Military can not find a job. Our Church is having a hard time with money. Our Pastors have asked me to help with ways to change how people live and give. I just finished your book and would like to use some of your ideas to do this if God grants me the opportunity. I would plan to recommamend your book and web site. I have tried and we can not come up with the money to get fully involved with Crown Financial. What our Church has done has been paid for by my Wife and myself. We are thankfull that God has blessed us do some small part. One thing we have learned is, "you can't out give God".
May God bless each of you, Bill Martin
